Tempo Electric Pure Silver Audio Cables

Pure Silver & Gold Interconnects

The idea behind our interconnects is a simple one — reduce them to the fewest possible elements and use the best possible materials based solely on the way they sound, not the way they measure. Our single conductor cables are an elegant solution for your audio needs, free from hype and pseudo-science. They exhibit no phase shift due to the minute time delays possible with multi-stranded designs and are non-directional. They have no break-in period and deliver clean, clear sound from the moment you install them.
What is a stereo set?

As you scroll down, you'll see unterminated wire listed by the foot and by the meter, priced as Unbalanced and Balanced stereo sets.

An Unbalanced stereo set is (4) pieces of wire — two pieces to make up the left cable or interconnect and two pieces to make up the right. For example, if you plan to assemble a two meter long pair of unbalanced interconnects, you would purchase a two meter Unbalanced stereo set. The total wire length is actually 8 meters, but it will be cut into four 2 meter pieces for your convenience.

An Balanced stereo set is (6) pieces of wire — three pieces to make up the left cable or interconnect and three pieces to make up the right. For example, if you plan to assemble a two meter long pair of balanced interconnects, you would purchase a two meter Balanced stereo set. The total wire length is actually 12 meters, but it will be cut into six 2 meter pieces for your convenience.

We also sell lengths of wire by the foot and by the meter. The price is the same regardless of how it's measured, but this allows you to buy coils for DIY projects when you're unsure of the finished length and prefer not to have it precut. Examples include rewiring loudspeakers, amplifiers or other components.

Similar Size and Oversized Teflon® Jacket for Finished and DIY Cables
Semi-clear is supplied for orders that specify similar size jacketing for interconnects and loudspeaker cables. If you purchase wire with an oversized jacket, we will supply it with the solid color of your choice.

About the WBT-0102Ag NextGen RCA connectors

To terminate the interconnects, we especially like the WBT-0102Ag NextGen RCA plugs, shown on the Big Twist interconnects at the top of this page. They utilize pure silver conductors, platinum-plated to limit oxidation. The brass body is also plated with platinum, while the central contact assembly is made from Ultramid and the negative contact is formed from Dyneon. For improved rejection of EMI, the barrel is fabricated from brass and coated with an exquisite black piano lacquer. Transmission bandwidth extends to 1 GHz and its 75 Ohm impedance makes this an outstanding connector for both digital (including S/PDIF) and analog signals.

What makes the WBT NextGen line particularly attractive is its locking feature. Turn the barrel clockwise to unlock it, insert the plug into the socket, then turn the barrel counter-clockwise for an extremely secure fit. The locking feature makes a nice, tight contact without forcing the barrel onto the socket, essential for optimum signal transfer. The grip is so tight, that you can actually suspend your preamplifier from interconnects that are terminated with these plugs. In fact, this is how we first saw them on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and it's what sold us on the design. While the suggested retail price for a set of four NextGen Ag RCA plugs is currently USD $430, as an OEM we can incorporate them into our designs at a much better price point. However, because we're not a parts retailer, we regret that we cannot sell them to you separately.

Big Twist Jr. Interconnects featuring Kimber Ultra-Plate RCA connectors

The Big Twist Jr. interconnect is fabricated with the same extra soft, pure silver wire that's used in the original Big Twist cables. To economize, they're terminated with Kimber Ultra-Plate RCA connectors, a non-locking, high quality audio plug. Its smaller diameter barrel still accommodates an oversized Teflon jacket, though smaller than the one used in its big sibling. The sound quality is astonishingly close to the original Big Twist and perfect to listeners on a budget who still demand the very best.

Shielding

Audio cables not only conduct the audio signal, itself, but can act as antennas, picking up RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), mainly AM and short wave radio, and EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference), usually a hum or buzz that's caused by a nearby electrical field. The latter can be from an AC transformer, turntable motor, or AC power cable. When listeners refer to"noisy" cables, what they really mean is that the cable is picking-up unwanted noise from an external source. These phenomena are completely local, somewhat unpredictable, and relatively rare.

The best way to make cables immune from RFI and EMI is with a full copper braid and a shield-to-earth connection. This is the way balanced or XLR cables are constructed. Most systems don't require shielded cables, but in some situations, typically phono interconnects, they may be a necessity. Recommended only if you know that you have a problem with EMI or RFI.

Add a braided copper shield with a nylon cover to any Phono interconnect.
Shielded Interconnects

Price per pair of interconnects:
  • 0.5 meter pair = $30
  • 1.0 meter pair = $60
  • 1.5 meter pair = $90
  • 2.0 meter pair = $120
  • Every additional meter = $60
The shield is grounded to the negative pin of the cable and, in turn, to the common ground of the audio circuit.
Add a separate ground wire with spade to ground the shield to the preamp chassis's earth ground connector instead of the common ground of the audio circuit.
  • $10 per pair of interconnects, additional.

New! A True 75Ω Pure Silver Digital Interconnect

Furutech recently introduced the FX-Alpha-Ag Coaxial Digital & Visual Cable, a Teflon-insulated, pure silver coaxial cable which meets the spec for 75 Ohm digital transmission. Compared to a traditional unbalanced silver interconnect, the sound comes alive with increased detail and dynamic range. This digital coaxial cable is terminated with your choice of a WBT-0102Ag NextGen RCA plugs or an Oyaide Pure Silver Center Post BNC connector in different combinations. Both meet the spec for 75 Ohm digital cables.

Unlike our other cables, this cable needs at least 100 hours of burn-in before the sound starts to smooth out. A longer burn-in of 300+ hours is even better. For this purpose, a special burn-in CD is available for free when you purchase as 75 Ohm cable in any length.

This is a true 75Ω digital interconnect, suitable for use between transports and DACs or computer-based audio sources, such as from a USB-to-S/PDIF converter to a DAC.

Aurum Ag: 24K Gold + Pure Silver Hybrid Interconnects

At the request of a client in Denmark, we fabricated a pair of 1 meter, hybrid phono interconnects in which the positive conductor was made from extra soft 24K gold wire and the return (negative) conductor was extra soft silver. Since we knew that gold was not as good a conductor as silver (it's measurably true) and had heard that it tended to make the music sound a bit slower, we weren't expecting much from this experiment. However, we were truly surprised to hear noticeably less grain through the gold hybrid pair. The sound was clearly more fluid and analog sounding, in a way that only live music can be. The highs sounded smoother and the speed of the music was unaffected. The benefits, at least on LPs, were all positive.

What's the down side? Well, gold is more than 86 times as expensive as silver. Also, if you have a dark sounding system to begin with, you may not be as happy as we were. On the other hand, just one pair of the gold-silver hybrid interconnects between your turntable and your phono preamplifier may be all that you need to revolutionize and refine the sound of your LPs. Recommended for Phono only.
